An aircraft belonging to Enugu Air has crash landed at Benin City airport in Edo State.
This occurred as the plane veered off the runway at Benin Airport on Thursday, however the airline confirmed that crew members and passengers evacuated safely without casualties.
The incident, which aviation experts classify as a runway excursion, involved an Embraer regional plane owned by Enugu State.
The state-owned carrier further stated via its official X account that the plane experienced a runway excursion after touching down and confirmed that officials notified the necessary aviation regulators.
It said, “Enugu Air wishes to inform the public that one of our aircraft operating into Benin experienced a runway excursion after landing today.
“We confirm that all passengers and crew have safely disembarked and there were no injuries or casualties.
“The aircraft has been secured, and the relevant aviation authorities have been notified in line with established procedures. An assessment of the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the occurrence is currently underway.”
In addition, Enugu Air noted that the incident might temporarily alter several of its scheduled flight routes.
Following the occurrence, viral social media clips showed the plane stranded off the runway, sparking initial claims of a crash landing.
Authorities have yet to determine what caused the runway excursion, and aviation regulators will likely launch a formal investigation into the matter.

Enugu Air officially began commercial flight operations in July 2025 after the Enugu State Government launched the airline to improve regional connectivity, promote tourism, and drive economic development across the South-East.
The airline launched its inaugural commercial flights from the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.
Meanwhile, the emergency landing at Benin Airport marks the first major safety incident involving the young airline since it began operations. Although all 68 passengers reportedly escaped unharmed, aviation regulators are expected to intensify scrutiny of the incident as investigators work to determine what caused the crash landing.
