APC transition committee and Edo government are headed for a clash.

Due to the purported incapacity of officials from the departing government to produce the necessary documentation for the assignment, the Edo State Joint Transition Committee has been adjourned sine die.
However, when contacted, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, stated that the APC committee was conducting inquiries, which he claimed went beyond their authority to inform them of the actions of the departing government. He added that some of the committee’s inquiries would be included in the notes that Governor Godwin Obaseki gave to Sen. Okpebholo, the governor-elect.

Speaking to reporters in Benin City

Patrick Ikhariale, secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Transition Committee, stated that both parties had committed to meeting as soon as they received the necessary documents or information.

The problem, according to Ikhariale, was that the members of the APC transition committee had a number of conversations with the transition committee from the previous administration.Regretfully, none of the difficulties raised by the resources they have provided us with are addressed by their nature.

We communicated with the appropriate government officials, including the Secretary to State Government, or SSG, Mr. Joseph Eboigbe, and they agreed in October 2024 to carry out our request because, at best, what they had given us had not significantly addressed the problem in any way. We had anticipated this morning that this would be done.

We also had a deep and impactful conversation.

We are here because we require a set of documents that will address the issues we have brought up.Additionally, we decided that Eboigbe must speak with His Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki today (Tuesday) and report back to us. Furthermore, we are not requesting anything unusual; the data or documentation we are requesting are consistent with international best practices. Therefore, it is documented that we took the necessary action. As of right now, a letter has been issued to them, and we sincerely hope that everything we discussed and decided upon yesterday will be carried out so that we may move on and hold the joint meetings that are required of us.

As he stated, we are waiting for him to get in touch with the governor to find out what to do next and when they will provide us with the necessary documentation.

And as a committee, we have also agreed that any information or documents they wish to provide us with must be sent to us at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled meeting time so that we can review it, consider it, and be prepared to discuss it. This way, we avoid going there and talking incoherently or about unrelated topics. Therefore, I think that both parties have agreed on them.

“Hopefully, we will get together and take the necessary action

If we receive the necessary documents and information today or tomorrow.””We are a transition committee, not an inquisitive committee that they are trying to portray themselves as,” Nehikhare told Vanguard. Presenting what we have done, where we are, and what we have not done is a global practice.

“They say we are just showing them what we have done, but these are the same people who stated Obaseki did nothing. We are meant to show them all we have done and haven’t done yet, and the governor’s handover notes will include some further information.

“We did explain how we would present the presentations to them during our first joint meeting, and some of the additional questions they asked are all included in these presentations.”

In Edo State, the APC has formally unveiled the 24-member transition committee that would support Governor Godwin Obaseki’s departing administration.

Chief Pius Odubu is in charge of the committee and will guide the group in making sure that the transition to Senator Monday Okpebholo’s next administration goes smoothly.

Mr. Emperor Tenebe, the chairman of the APC in Edo State, verified this in a letter to Governor Obaseki. The party’s preparedness for a cooperative transition process was stated in the letter.Kazeem Afegbua, Ernest Umakhihe, and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu are notable members of the committee.Omosede Igbinedion, Andrew Enwanta, and Dr. Matthew Urhoghide are among the other members.
