Nigerian singer Skales has opened up about his long-standing tension with former label mate Wizkid, revealing that he has always felt an air of dislike from the “Starboy.”
Speaking on a recent episode of the Listen podcast, the Shake Body crooner recalled moments that fueled his belief, including their infamous 2015 social media clash.
The drama started during a Q&A session on Twitter (now X), when a fan asked if he and Wizkid were working on new music.
Skales jokingly replied, “My brother Wiz doesn’t have my time anymore.” That comment, he said, was misunderstood, and Wizkid’s response came swift and fiery.
“He insulted me, my father, and my mother,” Skales said, recounting the incident. “He even said I wear fake jewelry. At that time, my ex-girlfriend was the one handling the replies on my end.”
The clash left Skales convinced that Wizkid had a long-held grudge. He noted, “I’ve always felt Wizkid didn’t like me. I’ve tried making peace, but he’s adamant. For a fact, I can tell you he doesn’t like me.”
Skales admitted that he refrains from retaliating because of public perception. “People would think I’m jealous of his success. So, I pick my battles. I’ve sat down recently and concluded—this guy just doesn’t like me.”
The singer also reflected on how his comment about inspiring Burna Boy has been misunderstood, adding that he’s often misjudged. “I’m just trying to tell my story, but people twist it.”
Fans reacted swiftly to Skales’ revelations. Some supported him, saying Wizkid’s attitude has been consistent over the years. Others urged Skales to move on.
A user remarked, “If someone doesn’t like you, leave them alone. Friendship isn’t by force.”
Others suggested that Wizkid’s reluctance to engage may stem from deeper issues unrelated to Skales. “Wiz rarely rows with people who talk too much,” a commenter observed.
Despite the divided opinions, one truth stands clear: Skales is ready to move forward. “Just focus on your music. You’re good and can still drop hits,” a fan advised.
Whether or not the pair ever reconcile, their story has sparked heated debate, proving that even stars have their struggles with relationships.
