HIV Positivity Rate In Anambra Reaches Alarming 1.2%
The Anambra State Aids Control Agency (ANSACA) has disclosed that 3,136 people tested positive out of the 257,953 screened between January and October 2024.
This is a Hugh leap of 1.2% rate over the 10-monthd period. Dr. Afam Obidike, the state commissioner for health in Anambra,shared this vital information during a media briefings in Akwa on Thursday, in observance of World AIDS Day, celebrated globally every December 1st since 1988.
Mr Obidike also highlighted that the state’s progress in combating HIV/AIDS noting that the expansion of comprehensive services to 175 healthcare stations across Anambra.
He noted that 99% of those diagnosed were successfully linked to antiretroviral therapy (ART) currently, 49,067 individual living with HIV are now receiving the ART . He also said as part of prevention efforts, the state has support from partners, distributing 1,406,744 condoms and 26,640 lubricants to promote safe practices among key population and the general public.
