US former President JIM CARTER dies at 100
The erstwhile president of the United States of America dies at the age of 100, Jimmy Carter.
The 39th president of America expired on Sunday, 29th December 2024, at his home in Plains, the town of his birth in Georgia.
He was surrounded with his family as he took his last breath, this statement had, adding, He was 100, longest-lived president in US history. Chip Carter, former president’s son, said in an official release through The Carter Center: “My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love.”
“My brothers, sister, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs. The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honoring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”
Mr Carter – a Democrat became the 39th president of the USA after beating former president Gerald Ford in 1976.
His final year in office was marred by a hostage crisis in Iran, when, in November 1979, 52 Americans were taken hostage at the US embassy.
On the same day of his departure from the office, the 20th of January, 1981, the hostages were released. Nevertheless, Carter continued to negotiate behind the scenes even after his defeat at the polls.
He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his endeavors to minimize conflicts in various parts of the world.
In attendance for the memorial service held in memory of her highness, the former president went to his burial site in Atlanta, Georgia, when his wife, Rosalynn Carter, passed away at the age of 96, in November 2023.
Last February, he was said to be receiving hospice care and would “spend the balance of his time at home with family”. “He chose not to pursue any more medical intervention after several brief hospitalizations,” the Carter Center stated at the time.
