They were kidnapped during the early hours on February 25, 2025 after attending night studies on the campus.

According to Shedrach Elum, spokesperson for JOSTUM Students’ Union, the students have returned, stating, “I have been reliably informed that [they] are back safely.”

In a video seen by HumAngle, one of them said, “We survived…I am back. I am traumatized.”

A news flash shared by the Nigerian Television Authority on X on Thursday also confirmed that the police rescued the students.

Management of the university immediately announced a one week mid-semester break on account of the abduction incident in response to insecurity on campus.

This was contained in an internal memo titled “Security Situation on Campus”, issued a day after the abduction and signed by the Registrar, Dr John David.

The National Association of Nigerian Students and Minister of Women Affairs, Iimaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim had clamored for more serious efforts to secure their release.
