The commissioner of Police for Edo State Command, Mrs. Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin was dismissed by the Police Service Commission (PSC) from her position and subsequently replaced by Monday Agbonika , following the Edo mob killing and the crisis that ensued thereafter.

According to reports, she was dismissed as the state’s commissioner of police after the Edo mob killing of 16 Hausa-Fulani travellers on March 27, 2025, in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area, Edo State.
On January 16, 2025, Betty Otimenyin was named the 49th CP of the State. She succeeded CP Peter Umoru Ozigi, who had retired.
The Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani said in a statement that Monday Agbonika, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, was the Force Equitation Officer at Force Headquarters in Abuja until he was deployed to Edo State.
In order to lower the crime rate in Edo State, since the Edo mob killing, Ani said the new CP, who was at the Police Service Commission for a posting interview conducted by Chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), was tasked with being proactive and settling down as soon as possible.
The statement read “You have to sit up and also work to win the confidence of the people, consult relevant stakeholders and always document every incident and action taken and make sure those who should be informed are properly informed of your actions.”

The new CP promised to uphold applicable laws while performing his duties, Ani continued. He pledged to rely on the Inspector General of Police for any required direction.
Agbonika is a 32-year veteran police officer with experience in operations, administration, public relations, and area/divisional police management.
In addition, the new commissioner held previous positions as Area Commander Ota, Ogun State; Area Commander ‘M’ Idimu, Lagos; pioneer Area Commander, Ayetoro, Ogun State; and DCP Department of Finance and Administration, Zone 16 Yenagoa.
