Samson Philip, a 45-year-old lecturer at the Taraba State College of Health Technology in Takum, was discovered dead in what authorities believe to be a suicide.
Early on Tuesday morning, the body of Philip was found dead in his home in Bete, Takum Local Government Area.
According to family reports, a container containing an unidentified chemical was also found close to the scene, and a rope was discovered looped around his neck which led to the conclusion that he committed suicide.

Colleagues and neighbours expressed shock at the situation, and the academic community and Takum locals are in grief as a result of the unfortunate incident.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a friend of the deceased told PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, “We were together Bete in Takum LGA earlier today to tell Samson Philip farewell.

“He committed suicide for reasons best known to him and God. People are speculating, but only Samson and God know what truly happened,” he added.
He added that the late lecturer might have struggled in silence. “Perhaps, he thought of talking to a pastor but feared it might become a sermon. Or a close friend, only to have his secret passed from one friend to another.”
James Lanshen, the Taraba State Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the event, stating that he was aware of the issue and was expecting a thorough report from the Divisional Police Officer in Takum.
“We have been informed about the situation. Before issuing an official statement, we are awaiting complete information from the DPO in Takum,” Lanshen stated.
Residents and students have continued to honour the deceased on social media, describing him as a composed and committed scholar.
