After 20 years that influenced the company’s expansion and market dominance, billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote has formally departed as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc.

Dangote Sugar Refinery confirmed in a statement signed by Temitope Hassan, the company secretary, that Dangote’s retirement will take effect on June 16, 2025.

Dangote, a founding director of Dangote Sugar Refinery, has been instrumental in the growth of the business by guaranteeing consistent shareholder value, establishing its corporate governance structure, and navigating significant market trends.

Two Decades of Leadership Transformation

“In accordance with the principles of good corporate governance and succession planning, Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc hereby announces the retirement of our esteemed Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company, Alhaji Aliko Dangote (GCON), effective June 16, 2025,” the company said in a statement acknowledging his enormous contribution.

During his tenure, the business carried out significant backward integration projects in Adamawa, Taraba, and Nasarawa States to improve domestic sugar output and fortify its supply chain.
