Reports state that Ashafa had not been seen in public for a long, and that his younger brother, Waliu Ashafa, and his chief of staff handled the majority of the council’s tasks that needed his involvement.
Ashafa is the council’s chairman for a second term. He served as the APC Chairman in Otto-Awori LCDA before to being appointed council head.
Ashafa rose to prominence in 1997 during the late General Sanni Abacha’s military rule when he was elected Chairman of the old Ojo Local Government in the zero-party election.
Since then, he has been involved in Ojo axis politics, working his way up to become the local APC chairman and eventually the substantive council leader.
In the last 12 months, the APC has lost roughly four council chairs.
