The local branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is in mourning following the death of Prince Musbau Ashafa, the Chairman of the Otto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State.

Reports state that Ashafa had not been seen in public for a long, and that his younger brother, Waliu Ashafa, and his chief of staff handled the majority of the council’s tasks that needed his involvement.

Ashafa is the council’s chairman for a second term. He served as the APC Chairman in Otto-Awori LCDA before to being appointed council head.

Ashafa rose to prominence in 1997 during the late General Sanni Abacha’s military rule when he was elected Chairman of the old Ojo Local Government in the zero-party election.

Since then, he has been involved in Ojo axis politics, working his way up to become the local APC chairman and eventually the substantive council leader.

In the last 12 months, the APC has lost roughly four council chairs.

In November 2024, Oladotun Olakanle, the chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA, passed away. In March 2025, Mrs. Bola Shobowale, the chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, passed away after a protracted illness. A challenging time came to an end with her passing; she had been out of the office for about a year because of health issues.
