The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission(NERC), has appointed Abdullahi Garba Ramat as its new chairman and CEO, following President Bola Tinubu’s nomination.
The presidential spokesperson said Thursday that the new NERC Chairman, Ramat, 39, is an electrical engineer and administrator with a PhD in strategic management, among other credentials.

In addition, President Tinubu proposed two people to be NERC board commissioners. Consumer Affairs Commissioner Mr. Abubakar Yusuf and Finance and Management Services Commissioner Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun are the nominees.
The presidency noted that all nominations are subject to confirmation by the Senate.

“However, to avoid a leadership vacuum in the critical regulatory agency, the President directed that Engr. Ramat assume office in an acting capacity pending his screening by the Senate, as stipulated by the law.
“President Tinubu urged the new appointees to use their knowledge and experience to discharge their functions and work assiduously to advance the administration’s power sector vision,” the statement reads.

According to authorities, Ramat is to replace Sanusi Garba as Chairman of NERC.
