A 50-year-old Lafayette, Indiana woman identified Nathalie Rose Jones was taken into custody on August 16, 2025, after allegedly going to Washington, D.C., with the intention of “kidnapping and assassinating” President Donald Trump.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia said in a press release issued on August 18, 2025, that Jones made obscene threats on Facebook and Instagram, including one that read, “With Liz Cheney and all of The Affirmation present, I am willing to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disembowelling him and cutting out his trachea.” She also mentioned that Trump will have a “arrest and removal ceremony.”

Jones was accused of delivering interstate communications containing threats to abduct or harm another individual, as well as threatening the president’s life. Both are federal crimes with a maximum sentence of five years in prison each, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. “Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and one that will be met with swift and unwavering prosecution,” emphasised U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro.

According to reports, Jones has battled mental illness, which she disclosed on social media. Her legal counsel is not yet listed in the public domain.
