    In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party alleged that the president is more focused on political engagements and public appearances, while citizens across the country continue to lose their lives to violent attacks.

    The ADC also dismissed Tinubu’s recent remarks on national unity as “empty political rhetoric,” arguing that his actions so far suggest a lack of genuine understanding of what it takes to truly unite the country.

    The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised alarm over the worsening insecurity across Nigeria, accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of neglecting the crisis while ordinary citizens suffer.

    In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said insecurity has spread to several states, with residents now forced to pay ransoms in cash and even food to armed groups. The ADC described this as a clear indication of governance failure and criticized the presidency for its lack of acknowledgment and meaningful response.

    The party expressed deep concern that, while communities in states such as Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, and Zamfara are under constant threat from violent attacks, the president continues to prioritize political and social functions. According to the ADC, this pattern of behavior suggests that President Tinubu is more focused on maintaining appearances than protecting Nigerian lives.

    Highlighting the tragic loss of hundreds of lives earlier this year in Plateau State, the party pointed out that the president never visited the affected communities. It described Tinubu’s statements on progress in tackling insecurity as “a tragic denial” of the suffering endured by ordinary Nigerians.

    The ADC also questioned the sincerity of the president’s promise to unite the country, saying his policies and lack of response to critical issues have only deepened national divisions. It argued that symbolic gestures — such as attending church services or wearing cultural attire — are no substitute for genuine leadership and empathy.

    As a way forward, the party called on the federal government to:

    • Acknowledge the full extent of Nigeria’s security crisis instead of offering misleading assurances;

    • Engage directly with affected states and communities to better understand their challenges;

    • Enhance coordination of national security efforts and foster stronger collaboration between the military, police, and local vigilante groups;

    • Publish regular reports on security operations to ensure transparency and accountability;

    • Guarantee that security funding is used effectively and transparently.

    The ADC warned that Nigeria is under siege and criticized the government for treating insecurity as a political matter rather than a national emergency.

    “The lives of Nigerians must take precedence over soundbites and public ceremonies,” the statement concluded. “This is a moment that demands true leadership, urgency, and measurable action.”
