Former vice president Atiku Abubakar has refuted claims that he gave Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, the navy officer engaged in a recent fight with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, a brand-new Toyota SUV.
Paul Ibe, Atiku’s media adviser, called the claim, which has been making the rounds on social media, “completely false and without any factual basis” in a statement released on Thursday via his X Twitter.

As a result, Ibe advised the public to ignore the false narrative.
“His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, Vice President of Nigeria (1999–2007), did not gift Lt. Ahmed Yerima — or any other individual — a brand new Toyota SUV, contrary to the false reports currently circulating on social media.
“The story is entirely fabricated and should be completely disregarded by the public,” he said.
The widely circulated allegation, which surfaced on Facebook on Wednesday, claimed that Atiku gave the naval commander a reward after he and Wike allegedly clashed over an alleged land-grabbing event in Abuja.
The altercation happened on Tuesday when Wike encountered Lt. Yerima, a navy commander, when he was conducting an inspection at a contested piece of property in the FCT’s Gaduwa District.
The minister and the officer got into a heated argument in a video of the incident that went viral online. The officer insisted he was defending military property.
