A coordinated search for the kidnapped students from St. Mary Secondary School in Papiri Agwara Local Government Area, Niger State, has been initiated by security personnel, including police tactical units, military components, and others.
The incident happened early on Friday, according to SP W. A. Abiodun, spokesman for the Niger State Police Command.

He said the armed men invaded the school premises at about 2:00 am and “abducted a yet to be ascertained number of students from the hostel”.
“However, police tactical units, military components and other security agencies have moved to the scene, combing the forests with a view to rescue the abducted students.

“In view of this, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman reiterated the Command’s commitment to rescue the students unhurt, and appealed to members of the public to remain calm and support security operations to rescue the students,” Abiodun added.

Terrorist attacks have worsened in several areas of Nigeria during the last few days. The federal government has claimed that recent statements made by US President Donald Trump were the cause of new terrorist and bandit attacks in Nigeria, a claim that has not been proven.
