An armed bandits group has released a new video claiming responsibility for the recent student abductions in Kebbi and Niger states, and openly threatening further attacks on soldiers and political office holders.

The video, which surfaced on Monday and has since gone viral on social media, features an armed guy bragging in Hausa that the organisation will soon start attacking politicians and military officials, claiming that the government “cannot stop” their operations.

The video, which depicts the person flanked by other armed bandits, has sparked a lot of conjecture online, with people wondering about the terrorists’ audacity and rising self-assurance.

According to reports, the threatening video surfaced just one week after over 300 students and twelve teachers were taken from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Agwara LGA, Niger State, and 25 schoolgirls were kidnapped from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.

As villages around the North continue to struggle with increasing attacks by bandits and other armed organisations, the video has increased public worry.

According to security experts, the film illustrates both the worsening state of security and the growing chutzpah of terrorists who operate with no deterrence.
