Renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi dies @102 , Bauchi Gov, others mourn

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has announced the passing of renowned Islamic scholar and spiritual leader, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, who reportedly died in the early hours of Thursday in Bauchi at the age of 102.

Details of the funeral prayers will be released shortly.

Dahiru Bauchi, who was reportedly born in Gombe in 1927, led millions of followers throughout West Africa and taught Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir) for more than 70 years.

He was the deputy chairman of the Fatwa committee of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and was widely regarded as the Khalifah of the Tijjaniyyah Ibrahimiyyah in Nigeria.

In a statement released on Thursday, Governor Mohammed offered condolences to the late scholar’s family, followers, pupils, and the larger Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and beyond on behalf of his family, the state government, and the Bauchi community.

Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was “a towering figure in Islamic scholarship, a man of deep faith, humility, and wisdom,” according to the Governor, who also noted that he dedicated his life to teaching the Qur’an, spreading Islam, and improving society’s moral and spiritual standards.

The Governor emphasised the Sheikh’s influence through a number of Islamic educational institutions and schools that generated thousands of scholars and memorisers of the Qur’an who have disseminated Islamic knowledge throughout Africa.

Dahiru Bauchi is survived by a large family including; 100 children, 406 grandchildren, and 100 great-grandchildren, as well as several students, and followers.
