BREAKING: ISWAP Terrorists Capture 13 Soldiers, Kill Seven – Report

Suspected members of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly killed 7 soldiers and captured 6 others, including a commanding officer, in an ambush near Damasak in the Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.

The commanding commander was recently elevated from major to lieutenant colonel, according to Sahara Reporters.

Conflict researcher Philip Brant, who specialises in Sahelian insurgency, wrote on X that the assault took place on Monday.

BREAKING: ISWAP terrorists capture 13 soldiers, kill seven – ReportMusa Uba, a brigadier general and the commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade, was arrested and executed along with four members of his squad during an ambush in the Damboa axis in Borno last November, as reported by PREMIUM TIMES.

Mr Brant noted that the attack was “reminiscent of the capture and execution” of Mr Uba.

The recent attack

News reports state that the ISWAP attack happened along the Maiduguri-Damasak road. According to reports, during a fierce shootout with soldiers, the terrorists set off bombs.

Along with the deaths, a number of soldiers were hurt, and an undetermined number are still unaccounted for.

Following the assault, the dead soldiers’ remains were found and transported to 7 Division Hospital.

The Army has not issued an official statement about the incident. An enquiry sent to its spokesperson, Appolonia Anele, had not been responded to.
