The Independent National Electoral Commission has begun publishing the personal information and academic credentials of 2027 presidential candidates.
According to the commission, officials launched this initiative so Nigerians can examine the documents and challenge any candidate’s qualification if they find proof of false information or forged credentials.
Copies of Tinubu’s Form EC9 that our correspondent obtained revealed his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Chicago State University in the United States, which his transcript indicated the university awarded “with honours” on June 22, 1979.
The form also included his National Youth Service Corps discharge credentials, which revealed he served in Oyo State from December 1982 until his demobilisation in November 1983.
For Shettima, his Certificate of Primary Education, which the Ministry of Education in North-Eastern State issued, indicated that he attended Lamisula I Primary School from 1972 to 1978, placing second out of 22 students in his final year, with English, History, and Religious Knowledge listed as his strongest subjects.
Additionally, his West African Examinations Council results from Government Secondary School, Potiskum, in June 1983 revealed six credits and passes, including distinctions in Religious Knowledge and Economics.
He attended the University of Maiduguri, where he earned a Second Class Upper Division degree in Agriculture in August 1989, before earning a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan.
The INEC also released information about Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, as well as African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Atiku Abubakar.
The commission added that it designed the initiative to allow political parties, candidates, stakeholders, and members of the public to inspect the documents.
