In a statement posted on his X account, Bashir Ahmad contended that Sharia is not a criminal ideology and that enforcing it does not amount to an offense that should attract punitive measures against any individual.
He further argued that linking the proposed visa restrictions to the enforcement of Sharia distorts both the legal framework and the religious context surrounding the policy.

The post by Bashir Ahmad reads, “It is insulting to suggest that the United States lawmakers proposed the visa ban on Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso simply because he implemented Sharia during his tenure as Governor of Kano State in 2000.
“Sharia is not a criminal concept, nor is its implementation an offense that warrants punitive measures against any individual.”
It was reported that Kwankwaso has reportedly been targeted for sanctions under legislation introduced by the US Congress over his alleged role in promulgating Sharia law in Kano State.
