Dauda Lawal, the governor of Zamfara State, has expressed new worries about what he called the security agencies’ lack of urgency in combating instability, claiming that intelligence sent to them is frequently disregarded because it is “not their priority.”
In an interview, the zamafara governor claimed that despite the fact that technology now allows real-time tracking of criminal movements, security personnel have not taken significant action based on the intelligence that is already available.
“If you follow all my interviews about insecurity, I strongly believe that we are not ready for this. I still believe we are not ready because it doesn’t take anything. With technology, every movement of any bandit, I have it in my system because we have satellites and drones. Every movement is communicated to all the relevant security operators: police, military, DSS and civil Defence real-time”.

“But it is not their priority and it’s frustrating. When you have the tool, you can neutralise these guys easily. They live within us. How is it difficult? You are telling me a bandit, a terrorist is superior to the state? How is that possible? It’s not,” he said in the interview with Vanguard”.
The governor insisted that the actual level of insecurity in Zamfara and sections of Kaduna was not being appropriately communicated at the federal level, claiming to have personally informed President Bola Tinubu on the matter.
He bemoaned the fact that security authorities have apparently neglected to regard the intelligence as critical, allowing attacks to continue, even though they have deployed surveillance equipment that can trace bandits’ movements.
He claimed that for months, he had to manage the state using his own funds after energy was cut off to government buildings, including Government House, because of unpaid bills.

Despite these challenges, the state governor maintained that insecurity remains the most pressing issue and warned that failure by security agencies to prioritise actionable intelligence could continue to undermine efforts to restore peace in Zamfara and neighbouring states such as Kaduna.
His comments come amid insecurity ravaging the state.
