The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has confirmed that Nigerians living in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran have started seeking information about potential evacuation amid escalating regional tensions.

The commission stated that “several Nigerians have reached out for guidance,” requesting clarification on whether the Federal Government has any plans to evacuate citizens should the situation deteriorate.
However, NIDCOM emphasized that it has not received any formal distress calls from Nigerians in Iran and noted that evacuation could be challenging at this time due to flight restrictions and security concerns.

The agency explained that ongoing hostilities and the suspension of international flights in affected areas could hinder immediate evacuation efforts, noting that “such operations would depend largely on improved security conditions”.
The commission urged Nigerians in the affected countries to remain calm, stay in safe locations, and maintain regular contact with Nigerian embassies for updates and necessary guidance.
NIDCOM also emphasized on the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting Nigerians abroad, assuring that necessary steps would be taken if the situation escalates further.
