Saudi Arabia has threatened to carry out retaliatory attacks on Iran in response to Iranian attacks on its territory.

Following attacks on two petroleum refineries in the Saudi capital, Faisal Al Saud, the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, stated that his nation has the right to use force against Iran if needed, according to Al Jazeera.

The minister spoke to reporters after a meeting of Gulf foreign ministers in Riyadh late Wednesday.

Iran needs to “review its misjudgements,” he said, emphasising that Tehran will not benefit from such strikes.

The minister said Iran “doesn’t believe in talking to its neighbours” and instead “tries to pressure its neighbours”, adding that this approach will not succeed and will “backfire politically and morally” on Tehran, Al Jazeera reports.

Recall that Iran targeted major gas infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE in retaliation for Israeli and American strikes on its gas facilities.

In response to the strikes on its petroleum infrastructure, Iran had threatened the Gulf nations with retaliation against their gas facilities.

According to QatarEnergy, missiles were fired at the Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar, causing substantial damage and numerous fires.

Iran threatened to bomb the facility and four other locations in the Middle East in revenge for Israeli and American attacks on its gas fields, leading to the site’s earlier evacuation.

Following an Iranian attack, the government of the United Arab Emirates shutdown the Habshan gas facilities in Abu Dhabi.

Iran contends that the Gulf nations are valid targets because the US still uses Gulf territory, including their airspace, for strikes.

Additionally, it expects that by attacking the Gulf nations, it will put pressure on their partner, the United States, to negotiate a truce.

The biggest sign to date that the nations are growing weary of Iranian assaults is the Saudi warning. They have only protected their lands from such assaults thus far.

However, the Saudi minister’s tone implies that they favour negotiation over reprisals.

Over 1,500 people have died as a result of the US and Israel’s war on Iran, most of them in Iran.
