The incident on NSCDC personnel was disclosed by counter-insurgency and security expert Zagazola Makama in a post on X.
According to the report, the explosion occurred around 8:35 a.m. on March 18 during a joint operation involving troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade in the Orsu area.
The operatives were said to be working near a suspected hideout of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), when they accidentally stepped on a concealed pressure-activated IED.

The device subsequently detonated, resulting in injuries to both personnel.
“They were immediately administered first aid and subsequently evacuated to a medical facility for further treatment.
“Operations are ongoing in the area to dismantle criminal hideouts and enhance safety,” the source said.
