Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, has arrived at the federal high court in Kaduna, for arraignment over alleged money laundering and conversion of public property.
El-Rufai was reportedly transported in a Hilux vehicle to the court grounds at around 9:00 a.m. and stayed there for more than half an hour before being led into the courtroom at around 9:34 a.m.
Operatives from the Department of State Services and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission established a protective circle around him as he entered the courthouse wearing a light green babanriga with a matching cap.
Journalists who arrived at the venue as early as 7:00 a.m. to cover the proceedings were, however, barred from gaining access to the courtroom by DSS operatives.
Heavily armed men had been stationed since the early hours of the day to increase security around the court grounds at the former Nigerian Defence Academy.
Vehicular movement in the area was restricted, forcing motorists into a single lane from the Ungwan Sarki axis through Kawo, leading to traffic disruptions.
The DSS, Nigeria Police Force, Mobile Police Force, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel made up the security force.
Recall that Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission(ICPC) had already declared that El-Rufai would be arraigned before the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
