Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has stated that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could influence the fortunes of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.

Kwankwaso, NNPP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election and former Kano State governor, officially resigned from the party on March 29, 2026.
Ahmad reacted to the development, saying the move might affect APC’s prospects in the state, but emphasized that the situation remains manageable.

“Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s move to another party may affect our performance in Kano. However, it is something we can handle,” he said.
Bashir Ahmad added that the party can still secure victory if it remains united and organised.
