Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has stated that supporting President Bola Tinubu does not constitute anti-party behavior, despite his membership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ayodele Fayose made the comments while underscoring the importance of prioritizing national interest over party loyalty, noting that political differences are a natural aspect of a functioning democracy.
He delivered the remarks at the PDP national convention in Abuja on Sunday.
“Nigeria is for all of us, you are first an Ekiti man before you become a political party card bearer. All the former governors are behind the current governor,” he said.

He also cited examples from international politics to support his position.
“Obama is not supporting the Democrats, the former president is not supporting Trump, have they expelled them? No, democracy will have those differences on national issues,” he stated.
Ayodele Fayose further argued that support should be based on competence rather than party affiliation.
“We must not say because it’s our party member that must win when we know our party member has no capacity. Would you compare a Makinde with an Asiwaju?” He queried.
