A former Kano State governorship candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), a development confirmed by former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad.

The development was disclosed by former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, in a post on his X account on Monday night, where he expressed concern over the move, describing it as an unfortunate loss for the party.

In his post, Ahmad lamented that Gawuna, who contested in the 2023 Kano State governorship election under the APC, had formally ended his membership with the party, noting that the development was not a positive one.
The resignation follows shortly after Gawuna stepped down as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).
In a letter dated March 27, 2026, he stated that his resignation takes immediate effect, explaining that the decision was in line with the President’s directive to comply with electoral laws ahead of upcoming political activities.
