Chieftains of the opposition African Democratic Congress, ADC, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rauf Aregbesola, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and David Mark, on Thursday arrived at a press conference venue in Abuja to address the media over the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.
The press conference comes after a high-profiled closed door meeting at Atiku Abubakar’s residence, according to findings.

The briefing also comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, decided to remove Mark and Aregbesola’s identities as the party’s national chairman and secretary, respectively, off its official website.
According to sources, INEC also ruled that it would not acknowledge Nafiu Bala Gombe, who is pursuing legal action to become national chairman.

The Commission also said that it would no longer recognise any party fractions and that it would not keep an eye on any congresses or conventions held by organisations that supported the impacted leaders.
INEC claims that the ruling will stay in force until the Federal High Court rules on a substantive lawsuit.

Meanwhile, earlier today, prior to the press briefing, The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Abuja headquarters was reported to have been under intense security.
On Thursday, a few Nigerians, primarily from the ADC, the Obidient Movement, and other organisations, were scheduled to return to the INEC headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, for a demonstration known as “Occupy INEC.”
