In a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the Kano State government rejected Sagagi’s allegation that the governor defected out of fear of failing to secure a second-term ticket under the New Nigeria Peoples Party, describing it as misleading.

The Kano State government said the claim was a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and distort the true reasons behind the governor’s decision.

According to the statement from the Kano State Government, Governor Yusuf’s political realignment was not driven by fear but by a commitment to fostering peace, unity, and development in the state.

It added that the move was made in the broader interest of promoting stability and sustainable progress, as well as strengthening collaboration to ensure that governance benefits all residents.

The government also dismissed suggestions that the governor is concerned about his political future, noting that such claims overlook his strong political base, widespread acceptance, and track record of service delivery.

It further reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to its “Kano First” agenda, which prioritizes citizens’ welfare, infrastructure development, economic growth, and social stability.

“We urge the public to disregard the statement as it does not reflect the true state of affairs,” the government said.

It added that the present administration would not be distracted by what it described as baseless claims and the actions of unpatriotic elements, but would continue to deliver on its mandate to the people of Kano State.
