The Ochotukpo Odu, Chief Dr. John Eimonye, has strongly criticized the recent wave of vandalism targeting public primary schools in Otukpo Benue State, especially at St. Mary’s Primary School, where government-funded dual desks are currently being constructed to improve learning conditions in Zone C.

His comments followed a report from the Zonal Education Officer, Mr. Basil Ejiga, which highlighted cases of damage and interference with building materials and infrastructure at the project site.

The traditional ruler described the situation as unfortunate and damaging to community progress, stressing that such actions are frustrating ongoing efforts to upgrade educational facilities.

During a Sunday inspection visit on April 12, 2026, he toured the school alongside members of his council and expressed concern that similar incidents have also been recorded in other schools, including St. Peter’s Primary School and UBE Junior Secondary School in Benue.

He emphasized that the projects are meant to benefit children and urged residents to take collective responsibility for protecting public property.

According to him, it is disturbing to see infrastructure meant for future generations being destroyed.

He called on Benue community members to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and support sustainable development through shared ownership of government projects.

The monarch also warned youths against acts of vandalism, encouraging them instead to contribute positively to community growth.

He further stated that offenders would face prosecution, noting that security agencies have been deployed to identify and arrest those responsible, including individuals involved in improper waste disposal and defecation within school premises.

Community leaders present during the visit—Chiefs Adah Ella, Onah Edeh, and Comrade Inalegwu Brooks—backed his stance and pledged cooperation with authorities to protect the facilities.

As an immediate response, the Ochotukpo Odu ordered the suspension of sporting activities in public schools until proper documentation and coordination are completed with education authorities and the local government to regulate their use.
