Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State have rejected reports of an impending defection by key members, reaffirming their commitment to remain within the party and contest the 2027 general elections on its platform.
The position was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Dutse on Sunday, where party leaders, elders, and members emphasised unity and loyalty amid ongoing political shifts across the country.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the stakeholders urged all aspirants seeking elective offices to promptly visit the party secretariat in Dutse to obtain their nomination forms ahead of the submission deadline.
They highlighted the importance of early preparation, discipline, and collective responsibility, noting that timely purchase of forms and strict adherence to party guidelines would guarantee a smooth and credible primary election process in the lead-up to 2027.
The stakeholders also reaffirmed their loyalty to former Jigawa State governor, Dr. Sule Lamido, describing him as a champion of the masses and a symbol of stability, experience, and grassroots politics within the PDP.

Speakers at the meeting pledged continued support for Lamido’s leadership and political direction, calling on members to remain united and dedicated to the party’s core values.
This development follows earlier reports that the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate, Mustapha Lamido, was considering a defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a move believed by some to potentially strengthen the APC’s electoral prospects in the state.
However, it was gathered that the proposed defection did not materialise, as both parties were unable to reach a mutual agreement.
By restating their allegiance to the PDP, stakeholders said all speculations surrounding any planned defection had been put to rest.
They expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the 2027 elections, maintaining that with unity, discipline, and effective mobilisation, the PDP would secure victory at the polls.
Jigawa State PDP Chairman, Babandi Ibrahim, also assured members of the party’s commitment to inclusiveness, transparency, and fairness in all its activities, urging members statewide to work together to reposition the PDP for success in the upcoming elections.
