Governor Umar Namadi has stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) continues to enjoy strong support among the people of Jigawa State, following the defection of about 4,000 members from various political parties into the ruling party in Taura Local Government Area.

Governor Umar Namadi made this known while receiving the defectors at a grand reception held alongside the commissioning of a new APC secretariat in Taura.
The group of defectors was led by Safiyanu Ubale Taura, a former state party chairman and four-term member of the House of Representatives, who was previously affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Speaking at the event, Namadi described the mass defection as a clear sign of the APC’s growing acceptance across the state. He noted that the new members were influential figures in opposition politics within Taura and Ringim Local Government Areas, adding that their entry would further strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.
According to Governor Umar Namadi, the development reinforces the APC’s position as the preferred political platform in Jigawa, especially considering the calibre of individuals who have joined.

The governor also pointed out that the number of new members joining the party outweighs those leaving, emphasizing that the APC is steadily gaining momentum across all 27 local government areas in the state.
He assured the defectors of fairness, inclusiveness, and equal opportunities within the party, pledging to uphold the trust they have placed in his administration.
Also speaking, the APC State Chairman, Ahmed Garba M.K., attributed the recent wave of defections to the governor’s leadership style and ongoing developmental efforts in the state.
In his remarks, Taura pledged the full support and loyalty of his followers to the APC, promising to work towards the party’s success in future elections.

Backstory…
The comment by Umar Namadi didn’t come out of nowhere. It followed a major political development in Jigawa State — the defection of about 4,000 members from opposition parties into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
These defectors, led by a prominent political figure, were previously aligned with opposition parties like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Their move to the APC was seen as a significant political shift, especially at the grassroots level in Taura and Ringim.
At the same event, a new APC secretariat was commissioned, turning it into both a symbolic and strategic moment for the party.
