Chibuike Ikenga, spokesperson for the Nyesom Wike-led Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State, has refuted allegations that the political alliance is plotting to hijack the state’s politics ahead of the 2027 election.
Speaking in an interview on Arise Television on Thursday, Ikenga dismissed the claims, asserting that the coalition represents a calculated effort to prioritize the interests of Rivers residents through good governance, openness, and accountability.
“You saw what has happened recently. You also saw yesterday video trending online where the Labour Party had also come to join in the Rainbow Coalition.
“This shows the leadership that the Minister of the FCT is putting together in the larger interest of the Rivers people.
“So we want to discountenance the fact many are saying that we are plotting a state capture. We are all Rivers people. We are interested in the interests of Rivers State.
“What is interest of Rivers State? Good governance, free, fair, and credible election, transparency, and then accountability. That’s what we are pursuing, as against the shenanigans that they were doing,” he said.

Backstory…
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, has repeatedly positioned himself as a key political force in the state and has openly backed Tinubu’s re-election despite remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The FCT minister had openly declared that president Tinubu will win the coming election. Recently, he declared that he will deliver Rivers State for MR. president.
That confidence became more pronounced in September 30, when Wike publicly stated in Abuja that he would resign as FCT Minister if Tinubu lost either Rivers State or the FCT in the January 16, 2027 presidential election
The development coincides with several state chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) rejecting the Nyesom Wike-backed “Rainbow Coalition” initiative, advising the former Rivers State governor to formally join the ruling party if he intends to support President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection bid.
