In an interview shared on X on Monday, Baba-Ahmed urged Obi to reconsider any plans for the 2027 presidential race if he is not prepared to fully engage in the political struggle.

He criticized Obi’s decision to leave the Labour Party, stating that he would have preferred him to remain and address the party’s internal challenges rather than exit.

Baba-Ahmed also cast doubt on the possibility of northern support for a proposed joint ticket involving Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

“As much as I disagree with the actions of the All Progressives Congress, someone who secured the Labour Party’s ticket with relative ease should have stayed to fix the party’s problems, no matter how difficult,” he said.

Questioning Obi’s approach to conflict, he added, “My former leader says whenever there is a disagreement, he walks away. If there is a disagreement in Nigeria, will he walk away? If you are not ready to fight, then stay at home.”

Recently, Obi and Kwankwaso left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), a move that followed Obi’s earlier departure from the Labour Party, where he contested the 2023 presidential election with Baba-Ahmed.
