Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, has dismissed comments made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the party’s secretariat, describing them as “busybody” interference.
Agbedi made this known on Wednesday while speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He was responding to Wike’s remarks during a media briefing with selected journalists, where the minister challenged the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the PDP to open an official party secretariat in Abuja and operate a bank account if they truly control the opposition party.
Reacting further, the lawmaker who represents Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State questioned Wike’s authority to issue such threats, especially regarding banks and property demolition.
Agbedi argued that the minister’s comments suggest a situation where different “centres of power” are emerging in the country, adding that such actions amount to unnecessary interference. Agbedi maintained that if there are grievances over the Supreme Court’s decision, they should be pursued legally rather than through public threats, especially from someone holding a federal office.
