Come to our aid, abducted Oyo school principal cries out from captivity

Following a widely shared video of victims from the Oyo school abduction, the State Police Command announced on Sunday that it has opened an investigation.

In response to questions about the authenticity of the video, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the state police public relations officer, confirmed the development in a phone conversation with our correspondent.

In the widely circulated video that went viral on Sunday, a woman who identified herself as Mrs. Alamu and claimed to be the principal of Community High School, Esinele, appealed for help, saying she and several staff members and students had been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in Oyo State.

Reacting to the development, Olayinka said, “I have seen the video, we are working on it.”

When asked to verify the video’s authenticity, he said, “I cannot confirm that to you.” He added that the authorities were seeing things the same way the public was and said, “We are working on it.”

The incident comes only few days after reports that armed men had invaded a secondary school in Ahoro-Esinele, in Oriire Local Government Area, and kidnapped the principal and several students.

According to the principal in the video, the event happened in the state’s Oriire Local Government Area on Friday at around 9:30 a.m.

She further urged the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, the Christian Association of Nigeria and other well-meaning Nigerians to urgently intervene and secure their release.

“We have been here since Friday. I am making this video to ask for help from everyone. They should come to our help and settle this thing peacefully so that our lives will not be lost,” she added.
