Sanusi Bature, spokesperson to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has stated that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is no longer a strong political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
Bature made the comment on NNPP during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday.
He explained that members of the Kwankwasiyya movement, including Governor Yusuf, had to realign politically because of concerns about the NNPP’s weakening structure.
According to him, the Kwankwasiyya ideology remains influential in Kano governance, but political realities necessitated a shift in alignment.
He added that in politics, understanding the context behind decisions is crucial, noting that the NNPP, in their view, no longer has the capacity to compete effectively in the 2027 elections.

Bature further stated that there was consensus among key stakeholders, including former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, on the need to seek a more viable political direction ahead of the polls.
He claimed that the decision to explore alternative political arrangements was made in response to concerns about the NNPP’s declining strength.
He also alleged that consultations were made with President Bola Tinubu as part of efforts to reposition ahead of 2027.
