Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has reacted strongly to recent comments made by his former political mentor and ex-Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Speaking before a crowd in Kano, Abba Yusuf warned that if Kwankwaso does not moderate his remarks, he may begin to respond in ways the former presidential candidate would not appreciate.
His reaction followed Kwankwaso’s recent interview, where the former New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader accused him of betrayal and vowed to defeat him in the 2027 governorship election.

Abba Yusuf questioned why a 69-year-old would repeatedly refer to a 63-year-old as a “boy,” adding that he had tolerated such remarks out of respect.
Abba Yusuf stated that while peace and stability in Kano remain a priority, continued provocation could force him to speak out more forcefully.
According to him, he would only maintain restraint if similar restraint is exercised by others, stressing that he values calm in the state but will not remain silent if pushed too far.
It would be recalled that Yusuf was elected governor in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) before later aligning with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
