Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has recorded a landslide victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election, polling 233,335 votes to defeat his opponent, Yilchini Jan Bida, who secured 3,070 votes across the state’s 17 local government areas.
The result was officially announced on Friday night at the APC State Secretariat in Jos by Fidelis Mnyim Bemse, Chairman of the party’s Primary Election Committee for the Plateau State House of Assembly and governorship elections.
According to Bemse, the exercise recorded 240,832 registered voters, with 236,405 votes cast.
He stated that Governor Mutfwang won overwhelmingly across all wards and polling units in the state, including major victories in local government areas such as Mangu, Jos North, Kanam, Jos South, Shendam, Langtang North, and Wase.
The returning officer further disclosed detailed figures from several LGAs, noting that in Jos North, Mutfwang polled 26,652 votes against Bida’s 68. In Mangu LGA, he scored 28,095 votes while Bida managed 46 votes.
In Kanam, the governor secured 19,595 votes compared to Bida’s 119, while in Shendam he recorded 17,208 votes against 389 for his opponent.
He also noted strong performances in other areas, including Qua’an Pan and Kanke, where Mutfwang polled 11,435 votes and 9,194 votes respectively.
Declaring the results, Bemse said Mutfwang met all constitutional and party requirements and emerged with the highest number of valid votes cast.
“Therefore, Caleb Mutfwang, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitutional guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and returned elected,” he announced.
With this outcome, Governor Mutfwang officially becomes the APC governorship candidate for Plateau State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
