Mustapha Bala Dawaki, former Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mustapha Bala Dawaki, a former House of Representatives member from Kano State, joined the opposition party just one week after losing the APC ticket for the 2027 elections following a consensus arrangement.
His defection was confirmed on Monday by Saifullahi Hassan, media aide to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a prominent leader of the NDC and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
Hassan disclosed that the defection was formalized at Kwankwaso’s residence in Kano, known as Miller Rose.

“Today, Leader Kwankwaso received Mustapha Bala Dawaki, former Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman, into the NDC Kwankwasiyya movement,” Hassan wrote on his official Facebook page.
The move comes as the NDC continues consultations to determine its candidates for various elective positions in Kano State.
However, it remains unclear whether Mustapha Bala Dawaki will automatically be granted a party ticket for any upcoming election.
