Suspected political thugs reportedly assaulted the Wike-backed PDP secretariat in Bauchi, causing damage to automobiles and injuring a few party members.

The assault occurred during in Bauchi State, during a governorship declaration hosted by the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Attackers allegedly armed with lethal weapons stormed the Bauchi PDP Secretariat during the affirmation of Hon. Usman Adamu Sufi as the faction’s 2027 governorship candidate, smashing parked buses, tearing down posters, and destroying billboards throughout the premises.

Witnesses said the thugs also entered the hall during the announcement and began smashing cars parked along the Maiduguri bypass near the party secretariat.

Sources claim that during the assault, thugs vandalised at least 15 buses and injured several party members.

The faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed responded to the situation by denouncing the occurrence and calling it a threat to the state’s peaceful political activity.

Before the general elections in 2027, the PDP urged Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to guarantee a stable political climate for all parties.

During a press conference in Bauchi on Monday, the party’s Ex-Officio member, Mohammed Sabo Abubakar, claimed that unknown thugs attacked party leaders’ vehicles.

He claimed that before leaving the area, three young people on a motorbike broke the side windows and windscreens of five cars.

Abubakar further claimed that another gang of thugs vandalised billboards at the party secretariat following the event.

He cautioned that if similar occurrences are not appropriately dealt, they may increase political tension in the state.

The PDP chieftain claims that similar violent incidents occurred during the hot political climate of the 2007 and 2015 election seasons.
