Nwaebonyi was responding to comments attributed to his opponent and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) senatorial candidate, Chief Chikadoli Ojimba, who urged him to step down on the basis of an alleged one-term arrangement in Ebonyi North Senatorial District.

Speaking with journalists in Abakaliki on Sunday, the senator maintained that no such binding agreement exists, adding that past representatives from the zone have served two terms in the Senate.

He cited former Ebonyi State Governor and ex-Senator representing Ebonyi North, Sam Egwu, as an example, noting that he served two terms in the upper chamber.

“I am not the first senator from Ebonyi North to seek a second term. Senator Sam Egwu served two terms in the Senate representing Ebonyi North. By the grace of God, I will also serve a second term,” he said.

Nwaebonyi also expressed confidence ahead of the 2027 senatorial election, claiming he has no strong challenger due to his performance and constituency projects.

He further argued that political office should be based on competence, experience, and service delivery rather than financial expectations.

“Politics is not an avenue for making money. Those coming in with that mindset should reconsider. Public service is about sacrifice and serving the people,” he stated.

The senator also expressed optimism about the All Progressives Congress (APC) retaining strength in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 elections, while commending President Bola Tinubu for increased federal attention to the South-East, particularly ongoing road projects in Ebonyi.

He also reiterated his support for Governor Francis Nwifuru, describing him as a unifying figure who has strengthened cohesion in the state.

Nwaebonyi dismissed reports of divisions within the Izzi clan, insisting the people are more united under the current administration.

According to him, political divisions based on sectional interests are fading, as stakeholders now focus on unity and development in Ebonyi State.
