The Force Intelligence Department’s Special Tactical Squad has dealt a major blow to violent crime with the arrest of a notorious syndicate linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, and deadly “One Chance” operations across the Federal Capital Territory.

According to reports, the criminal gang terrorised residents for years by abducting victims, demanding ransom payments, and, in some cases, killing captives even after collecting large sums of money from their families.

Additionally, Police investigations linked the syndicate to the deaths of Chinenye Bridget Abia in February 2026 and Chinemerem Chukwumeziem, a nurse, in January 2026.

Recall that one chance operation in the FCT and its environs have become a menace. Reports have revealed that several residents have lost their lives to the crime with many others sharing personal experiences with one chance perpetrators.

BACKSTORY…

In January 2026, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) warned that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) must not become a hotspot for so-called “one chance” killings after the murder of two professionals in Abuja.

In a statement issued on Thursday, NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, strongly condemned the killings of Ms. Chinemerem Pascalina Chuwumeziem, a nurse, and Princess Chigbo Mediatrix, a lawyer and former Treasurer of the NBA Abuja Branch.

Osigwe further revealed that the two women were killed in separate incidents, with their bodies later discovered in different locations across the city, describing the incidents as a troubling indication of the growing insecurity in the nation’s capital.
