A factional chairman of the Labour Party in Nasarawa State, Alexander Ombugu, has raised alarm over threats to his life.
Speaking with journalists in Lafia on Saturday, Ombugu called on security agencies to provide him with protection and investigate the alleged threats.
He said the threats may be linked to his stance on issues surrounding the party’s recently concluded primary elections in the state.
Ombugu, however, declined to name those he suspects, stating that such details should be left for security operatives to properly investigate.
He urged security agencies in the state to ensure his protection and carry out a thorough probe into the matter.
“The whole issue is because I am standing by the truth, and some people within and outside the party are not happy about it.
“Today, my wife returned from where she went to buy something and was crying profusely. When I asked what happened, she told me that rumours had been spread that I would soon be attacked.
“I tried to calm her down, but she kept crying, probably because of how she received the information.
“The fact is that I have not done anything wrong to anyone since I joined active politics. In carrying out my duties, I have always followed the laws guiding the Labour Party and Nigeria.
“I am therefore appealing to security agencies for adequate protection and a proper investigation so my life can be safeguarded,” he said.
