Adelabu’s sister, nephews regain freedom after three days in captivity

The Nigeria Police have successfully rescued the abducted sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.

Armed men abducted John-Paul and her sons on Wednesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, but they regained their freedom on Saturday after spending three days in captivity.

The Oyo state police spokesperson Olayinka Olushola, confirmed the development, further adding that both the mother and children are unhurt.

BACKSTORY…

The incident reportedly occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, as Mrs. John-Paul was taking the children to school.

The family confirmed the abduction in a statement issued by Chief Adelabu’s Media Aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro.

 

According to the family, Mrs. John-Paul, 43, is the youngest of five children born to Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu.

Before her voluntary retirement last year, the 43-year-old had positions at First Bank Pension Custodian and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Following their release, the police spokesperson said details about their rescue would be shared soon.

Meanwhile, their release comes admid the continued detention of over 40 pupils and teachers of three schools in Ogbomosho, Oriire LGA, abducted on May 15.

The victims, including children as young as two years old, have been in captivity for 22 days.

Oyo school abduction

On May 15, suspected bandits abducted 39 schoolchildren and teachers from three schools in Ogbomosho, Oriire Local Government Area, and later beheaded one of the teachers a few days after the abduction.

Since their abduction, there’s been series of protests and demands for President Tinubu’s resignation. Additionally, the bandits have since made outright demands, requesting for certain demands to be met before the children will be released.

The bandits also continue to share video clips of the children in harsh conditions.
