A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, remains President Bola Tinubu’s strongest challenger ahead of the 2027 elections.
Dele Momodu described the 2027 presidential race as a “battle of the titans” between Atiku and President Tinubu, while noting that any emerging third force may not have enough strength to displace the two political heavyweights.
In a post on X on Monday, the former presidential aspirant urged the ADC to rethink its political approach and adopt more modern and inclusive strategies.
He called for a blend of experienced politicians and technocrats, saying the party must position itself as a bridge between traditional and contemporary political thinking.
Dele Momodu also stressed the need for national reconciliation, reorientation, and rebuilding, warning against continued political tension in the country.
He wrote that the 2027 election is expected to be a major contest between Tinubu and Atiku, adding that while a third force may emerge as in 2023, it is unlikely to displace the two dominant figures.
According to him, ADC must evolve beyond traditional politics and embrace a more progressive structure that reflects both conservative and modern ideals.
He further warned that Nigeria’s current political climate is becoming increasingly tense and unstable, urging leaders to return to ideologies and values that once guided the country’s founding fathers such as Nnamdi Azikiwe, Ahmadu Bello, and Obafemi Awolowo.
Momodu added that the country must urgently move away from what he described as worsening political hostility and embrace unity between the North and South before the situation deteriorates further.
