Jonathan lost 2015 election because he didn’t heed my advice – Fr Mbaka reacts to online backlash

The Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has stated that former President Goodluck Jonathan lost the 2015 presidential election because he ignored key advice given to him at the time.

Mbaka claimed that he had advised the former president to remove the then Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega, but that his counsel was not taken seriously.

The cleric made the remarks in a viral video while clarifying his earlier comments suggesting that the country’s current insecurity has political undertones.

He had previously alleged that the ongoing security challenges were being orchestrated by some politicians seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu, similar to what he said happened during Jonathan’s administration.

The statement sparked reactions on social media, with some users linking Mbaka’s comments to Jonathan’s defeat in the 2015 election.

However, in the latest video, Mbaka maintained that Jonathan’s loss was due to his own decision, insisting that the former president failed to act on what he described as divine guidance.

“Forget what they are saying on social media. Former President Goodluck Jonathan was my friend; the situation is different,” he said.

“Jonathan did not fail because I failed him; he chose to fail. I told him what to do to win the election, but he refused.

“He failed because he disobeyed the advice of a man of God. I told him to remove Jega, that Jega had already betrayed him, but he refused to do so,” Mbaka added.
