The Nigerian Army has issued a strong warning to its personnel over the misuse of social media, stating that any soldier found violating existing online conduct regulations will face disciplinary measures.
The caution was delivered by the Nigerian Army Provost Marshal, Maj. Gen. Mathias Erebulu, during a training seminar for Military Police personnel, according to a report by African Independent Television (AIT) on Thursday.
Erebulu instructed Nigerian Army commanders and officers in charge of various formations to return to their units and intensify awareness campaigns on the risks and consequences of improper social media use among troops.

He emphasized that soldiers are not expected to engage freely on social media, noting that any breach of the military’s social media rules would attract sanctions.
He further urged Nigerian Army commanders to ensure strict compliance by properly educating personnel on the guidelines governing online behavior.
The Provost Marshal also reminded officers of constitutional provisions regarding the detention of civilians, stressing that such individuals must be transferred to relevant law enforcement agencies within 24 hours after preliminary investigations.
He clarified that civilians should not be held indefinitely in military custody, reinforcing the need for adherence to due process.
The seminar, which focused on improving discipline and operational standards among Military Police personnel, was featured on AIT’s morning programme, Kakaaki.
