Davido raises global awareness over abducted Oyo schoolchildren at World Cup concert

Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has drawn global attention to the abduction of school children and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State during his performance at the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles on Wednesday night.

Davido wore a customised jacket displaying the names of the 39 abducted children and their seven teachers. On the back of the outfit, he boldly wrote the message: “Bring Them Home.”

During his performance of his hit song Fall, Davido repeatedly showcased the jacket, using the moment to highlight the plight of the abducted victims and call for their safe return.

This is not the first time the singer has spoken out on the incident, as he had earlier urged relevant authorities on social media to ensure the victims are rescued without delay, stressing that the rising insecurity in the country must be urgently addressed.

Meanwhile, Grammy-winning Nigerian artiste Burna Boy is billed to perform at the FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony in Mexico City alongside international pop star Shakira. The duo will also perform their official 2026 World Cup song, Dia Dia, at the event.

In another highlight, Nigerian singer Rema is set to perform at the US opening ceremony in Los Angeles alongside global acts including Lisa and other international stars.
